Inexpensive, aesthetically pleasing dog-friendly groundcover for the backyard?

Posted in Garden and Landscape and no responses… =[ Maybe my dog people can help me out if you have had a similar project?

So here's the deal... we RENT so I don't want to drop a ton of money on fixing up the backyard, but I want to make it as enjoyable as i can for the family within a reasonable budget. Currently we are working with small patches of grass and very compacted dirt...lots of weeds that I am getting sick of pulling! What can I get to improve the yard? We have a Lab that will be using the yard as well, so it must be dog friendly. Sodding the yard is out of the question since I refuse to dump that kind of money into a rental. Would seeding the bare areas help at all or would that be an exercise in futility? Any and all ideas are welcome!

Dichondra works great.
Dichondra is a warm season ground cover that grows close to the ground. It has broad, almost circular leaves and when mown low establishes a thick dense carpet look. Originally a weed, it is now used in many ground cover situations where normal grasses may not do as well. It has a bright green color and a cushion feel underfoot.

When the area is moistened, and raked the following day..you can broadcast the seed, and it takes over weeds, and crabgrass. It requires few mowings, and is dog-hardy.
Dichondra seed will sprout in 1-2 weeks during warm weather. The first leaves that appear will be long and narrow and will NOT look like true Dichondra leaves. In a week to 10 days after most of the seedlings are up, let the soil surface dry partly out between sprinklings. Gradually increase the amount of water applied with each irrigation while slowly reducing frequency.
I'll post some links:
http://www.lawngrasses.com/odd-varieties/dichondra.html
the above link says you need to spade the soil, but we had a burmuda and crabgrass yard, and just broadcasting a moist yard worked beautifully. Our region got down to 17 degrees, so I don't know how it would hold up in colder climates.

landscaping concrete patio

landscaping concrete patio 8 landscaping concrete patio
Landscaping – Stamped concrete. Follow the steps to a landing cost more per square foot of a walkway or patio?

I'm building a house. Originally considered for slab patio / walkways, but it was too expensive. Things changed for imprinted concrete, which for the patio / corridor is the third of the cost of the slab. The landscape now tells me to do the steps of the house landing on the patio / corridor is almost twice as expensive in comparison with stone slabs. It makes no sense, concerned with the honesty of the contractor. Thoughts?.

I'm sure steps cost more per square foot of flat work for the extra work required training. With stamped concrete, there is extra work to "butter" to end the riser of each step, but it's not really an element of big labor unless you have 10 or more steps. The question is what is the difference between the total cost of measures taken or stamped concrete slab. The cost may be twice, but if the diffrence total is relatively small, then you may want to do. If I were you, I would like to speak with several concrete contractors and ask them to approach cost to install a set of concrete measures and steps to differential seal. Most contractors are willing to rough estimates, provided and when they understand to be that. Our yard and three aisles are stamped concrete. We love you and so does everyone who sees them. We removed the flag stone walks and yard to go to the concrete. It's much easier to maintain and safer to walk on.

great landscaping ideas

great landscaping ideas 3 great landscaping ideas
How does a group of pages of the landscape in a project that is mostly portraiture.?

I have Vista with Microsoft Works, I, for my life, can not get 1 or 2 pages to change the landscape in my document. I tried to select each page and change the layout, but ends up changing the entire project. Any ideas or suggestions would be great, or if it can be done? I am familiar with how to do this in Word and tried the tricks I know, but what works is my best. Thanks in advance.

I have Works 6.0 (Works 9.0 is the Vista version-level), but I think that's one of the many features that has Word Works no. Word Kinda makes you appreciate a little more, right? Sorry.

simple landscaping ideas

simple landscaping ideas 2 simple landscaping ideas

Landscaping your garden is not difficult. Many people enjoy doing it themselves. Just take the ideas and know the basic principles of design the landscape.

Start by taking a close look at the gardens and parks in their neighborhood, identifying the consistency, balance, simplicity, proportions, transitions, lines and contrasts in landscaping designs and use of plants, garden decoration, gardening fabric, etc.

Then sit down and do a landscaping plan in your own backyard. Take action and prepare an outline. Select a theme and decide the focal points. Establish irrigation systems, sprays and vehicular access.

Decide on the materials, facilities, decoration, colors, textures and positioning. Keep an eye on the details and take a bold approach, but simple.

Have confidence in yourself and see yourself landscaping your garden as a do-it-yourself gardener. Sound fantastic? Yes, you can do everything yourself and create a visual landscape magnificent. Keep reading.

Landscaping begins with a basic understanding of the principles involved.

* Be simple. If "going to do first, do a complicated plan for landscaping. Choose something simple, do, discover how easy it. Happy? Try something more complex next time.

* Create a theme. This helps you be consistent. You put things that match each other in shape, size, color, texture and tone. Do not put a big red stone next to a small target. If you are working on the theme "water", have a source or two and a couple of small ponds in design. Repeat things. You get more unity in the landscape this way.

* Balance things gardening. It can be symmetrical or asymmetrical. The first is the mirror image type. One part is replicated elsewhere in the design, design, plant height, set of ground bed of choice and combination colors. The later creates diversity in landscape design – in some abstract form of very different shapes and designs.

* Be creative in color choice. Color adds life, so use it with imagination to create maximum effects in gardening. Place contrasts, bright against the weak and get true beauty. Achieve deep with dark colors. Approach things with cool colors. Make appreciable distance in bright colors.

* Move naturally. No suddenly jump using the staircase effect. Tall, small, smaller, smallest to follow this order in the landscape when planting trees and shrubs.

* Follow the lines. These appeal to the natural eye. Use straight lines to create acute and curved lines to bring impact nice.

* Stick proportions. This is essential in any design and landscaping is no exception. Do not strike a discordant note, placing a large artifact a small garden. Or create a small fountain in a large splash pool! All our objects and decorations should match each other in proportion to create the most attractive landscape.

All garden designs have a focal point. Get garden statuary good, natural objects and garden decor to their focal points. Place tall plants in the middle or behind a group of small plants, tall plants naturally attract us. Circles have an attractive particular, in order to place the focal point in the deepest part of an inside curve often gives special meaning to gardening.

Draw out your plan landscaping. Measure your plot. Make a sketch using an appropriate scale as 1 inch = 10 feet. Prepare route design, beds, objects, sidewalks, bridges and causeways. Get ideas and read books. Select the appropriate style formal or informal, classic or contemporary. Finally, shape the master plan. You can treat the graph bubble for better representation. Select a good landscape fabric. Avoid plastic and do not let the differences between sections to obtain the material. Now, your landscape plan is ready. Go ahead and implement it, become a do-it-yourself Gardner.
